It’s time to take the critical action in a Democracy! It’s time to VOTE!
We decide who represents us. We decide what comes next.
For more than a year, millions of people have come together to reject the idea that power belongs to kings, billionaires, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law.
Now, we’re taking the next step, turning people power into voter power. Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest. Instead, on October 17th, it’s a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing Lincoln County together, asking people to make a plan to vote early and ensuring every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
In Wiscasset we’ll be holding a Bridge Standout, encouraging all the voters passing on Route 1 to vote in this critical election, and to vote early. Bring signs saying VOTE, VOTE EARLY, or signs emphasizing what we’re trying to achieve with our votes, such as: * VOTE TO END TRUMP CORRUPTION * VOTE FOR PEACE * VOTE FOR A LIVEABLE ECONOMY
Can’t make up a sign to bring? We’ll have signs you can use. Have one of Lincoln County Indivisible’s “With Liberty and Justice for All” lawn signs – bring it! Bring a US Flag. Whatever you’d like to use to emphasize the importance of voting for Americans.
But please, don’t bring candidate signs, as No Kings wants to keep the event non-partisan.
Come in costume and come to have fun. Come to show how much you treasure our right to vote!
There will be a table and volunteers with information in front of Treats. Signs will be available for those who need them down by the pier parking area at the start of the bridge, on the east-bound side. We’ll spread out on the sidewalk of Sheepscot Bridge, to wave at the passing cars.
There is easy parking at the County Courthouse parking, or in the municipal parking lots around Wiscasset. For on street parking make sure you aren’t blocking someone’s driveway.
Dress warm – if the day is breezy, it could be chilly!
Coming from the north and don’t need a sign? You can avoid crossing the bridge and instead join the standout from the Edgecomb side. Enter the bridge sidewalk on the left facing Wiscasset. Just remember that there is no public parking along Route 1 in Edgecomb. You can park at Peapod Jewelry.
When we’re done we’ll collect the signs back at the pier parking. For those who want to take their VOTE! sign home with them, to post on your lawn or town, we’ll have stands available there.
No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
