We’re done just protesting – we’re voting, and we’re making sure every vote gets counted! While voting is Maine is safe and secure, this regime seems intent on interfering with mail-in voting and spreading chaos around our elections. So, the focus of this No Kings event is different from those that came before. The goal now is to encourage early voting (Oct. 5 – 29), promote broad voter participation, and help ensure that every eligible vote is cast and counted. Still want to protest? Sure, we can! Want to wear a costume? Why not?! Let’s have some fun with this!
Overview: Saco Transportation Center, Oct. 17th, 1:00 – 2:30. We can spread out all along the west side of Main Street. We’ll have music playing. Be sure to check out the social action tables, especially our table on election protection!
Safety: Please do not block the sidewalk nor interfere with the safe flow of vehicular traffic. If anything arises that concerns you, alert one of our peacekeepers (wearing safety vests).
Parking: There’s plenty of free 2-hour and paid parking spots there and in the parking lot just north of the railroad tracks – and additional parking downtown.
Restrooms: The Transportation Center has public restrooms. Please leave your signs outside of the building.
Chants, Signs and Noisemakers: Please be aware that children are present. Bring a sign if you can, as we usually run out. You are also welcome to bring drums and noise makers other than whistles. Sign suggestions: Vote Early, I Voted Early, Bank Your Vote, Our Vote Is Our Power, We’re Protecting Our Elections, Hands Off Our Vote! Create your sign now and use it for other events too.
Volunteers: Please email us at SacoBayIndivisible@gmail.com to volunteer.
**We decide who represents us. We decide what comes next.**
For more than a year, millions of people have come together to reject the idea that power belongs to kings, billionaires, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law.
Now, we are taking the next step, turning people power into voter power. Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest. Instead, on October 17th, it’s a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing **our community** together to make a plan to vote early and ensuring every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
Because no one person gets to decide our leaders before voters do. On October 17th, join us in local events across the country as we get out the early vote and say it loud: no thrones, no crowns, no kings.
*No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.*
*A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
