It has been a while since we had an event, so come and be in community! On Saturday, October 17, 2 pm – 4 pm, join in this non-partisan event that is all about voting. We’ll remind registered voters to vote early via mail ballots. We’ll invite people to register to vote if they haven’t yet. We’ll share info about drop box locations. And since it’s pretty much guaranteed that there will be chaos and confusion before, on, and after November 3rd, we’ll share what your options are to peacefully help with election protection.
**We decide who represents us. We decide what comes next.**
For more than a year, millions of people have come together to reject the idea that power belongs to kings, billionaires, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law.
Now, we are taking the next step, turning people power into voter power. Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest. Instead, on October 17th, it’s a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing **our community** together to make a plan to vote early and ensuring every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
*No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.*
*A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
Accessibility
PARKING: There is no municipal parking in Harleysville. Use common sense when finding a place to park. Carpooling is strongly suggested.
–> Properties of shopping centers are privately owned. Property owners have the right to tow non-customer cars. Keep an eye out for signs that say “Active Customer parking only” and park elsewhere unless you make a purchase.
I strongly suggest the first 3 options, which are for able-bodied folks. Walk with a buddy and DO NOT PARK in or block driveways. Walk with another protester. The Lower Salford Police have suggested the first two options; I added the third and fourth options:
– Township parking at 426 Oak Rd, Alvin C. Alderfer Recreation Area. Use the public trail from the Rec Area parking lot; from the lot near the covered picnic tables, follow the trail through woods, then the Pondview Drive neighborhood, cross Moyer, walk through Belle Lane neighborhood, find the paved trail between #419 and #421, cross Stover Rd, through more woods, and you will be in the park on the north side of the Plaza property. Walk on the path to your left and you will be able to see us!
Hints: Use GPS as a pedestrian. Lower Salford Township map of trails and sidewalks may help: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/c9a67fbca2c44f5aa94594aab4824356/
If you choose to walk on Oak Dr, please use extra caution as there are few sidewalks.
– Street parking on the following nearby residential roads: Shirley Drive, Pamela Circle, Kathleen Circle, Florence Drive. Take Clemens Road, which is the light at the Plaza, and from there, turn left into the Shirley Drive neighborhood.
– Street parking on Belle Lane: From Main Street, turn at the light onto Oak Dr, then left onto Moyer Road, and left onto Belle Lane. In this residential area, you’ll enter the paved foot trail between homes #419 and #421. Cross Stover Rd, go through more woods, and you will be in the park on the north side of the Plaza property. Walk on the path to your left and you will be able to see us.
– Street parking on Stormfield Drive: From Main Street, turn at the light onto Oak Dr, then right onto Stormfield Drive. This residential area has no posted parking restrictions that I saw (but don’t block driveways, fire hydrants, etc!). Walk out of the neighborhood and turn left to walk on Oak Dr toward the light at Main Street. Please use extra caution as there are few sidewalks.
– If you decide to park at Meadowbrook Plaza: Be a customer. Make a purchase at a store and leave the bag visible in your car. Park away from the businesses. Note: For past rallies, the owner of the Plaza has expressed concerns about parking. Keep an eye out for tow trucks.
